NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE REQUIREMENTS

Article 230-95 for switchboards rated 1000 amperes or more.

Article 230-95 (c), Performance Testing.  The ground fault protection system shall be performance tested when first installed on the site.  The test shall be conducted in accordance with instructions which shall be provided with the equipment.  A written record of this test shall be made and shall be available to the authority having jurisdiction.

Article 250-61 (b), Load-Side Equipment.  The neutral shall not be used for grounding purposes nor should load side neutrals be grounded in any way.  This could produce an erroneous signal in the ground fault sensing system, resulting in false tripping.
