Are your high voltage systems properly grounded?

Protect your personnel & systems with Ground Resistance Surveys

For more information about ECP Ground Resistance Surveys, or for information on any of our services, please call our Marketing Department at 713-222-9195 or 1-800-926-9029.

Have your high voltage systems been checked since installation for proper grounding and low resistance? Can your high voltage systems effectively dissipate repeated fault and surge currents, which is critical for protecting personnel and complex electrical systems?

ECP Tech Services Inc., the leading provider of Circuit Breaker Repairs and Vacuum Retrofits; Transformer, OCB and Oil Services; UPS Systems Services; and a wide range of Field Services, can help you maintain safe, effective grounding levels with its economical, periodic Ground Resistance Surveys.

The Problem - Earth electrode requirements or capacities can change from year to year because of:

  • Plant or electrical system expansion
  • Increased underground installation of nonmetallic pipes and conduit
  • Reductions in the water table, resulting in dry earth and high resistance soil
  • Temperature and climate variations

Areas of Concern -

  • Actual resistance to earth of non-current carrying parts of electric motors, switchgear, metallic enclosures, etc.
  • Continuity of ground leads to a ground grid
  • Status of the ground grid
  • Impedance of receptacle ground leads to a ground
The Solution - ECP Certified Survey Technicians, using IEEE Standard 142 Testing Specifications for Ground Systems, can help you protect your personnel and your systems by conducting economical, periodic Ground Resistance Surveys.  ECP Technicians will:
  • Test Receptacles for a maximum of 2-ohm impedance with 60-htz AC
  • Test Ground leads for continuity and resistance with 50 amps AC
  • Determine the voltage to earth of the entire electrical system, enabling quick isolation of any system fault to ground
  • Establish the limits for system to ground or system to frame voltage, ensuring safety of personnel
  • Establish a system with minimum transient over voltages
  • Check for proper grounding of metallic enclosures or supporting structures of the electrical system
  • Check level of protection from lightning strikes and induced lightning voltages
  • Obtain soil resistance values throughout the facility, expressed in ohm-centimeters
  • Determine spacing, depth of insertion and number of earth electrodes to obtain desirable earth resistance
